MAGLEV update: Help us protect your community
As you may know, the State Department of Transportation has proposed running high speed MAGLEV trains through the middle of Piney Orchard and Odenton. It's a ridiculous idea which would disrupt your community and could threaten property values. We strongly oppose it.
High speed rail which would take cars off of the Baltimore/Washington Parkway and I-95, reduce carbon emissions, and fight climate change is a good idea -- but doing it on a route which would harm homeowners in Piney Orchard and Odenton is not.
Councilman Andrew Pruski asked the State Department of Transportation about their plan and they told him:
"... will continue to stand firmly against any proposed routes that would harm local communities or affect the quality of life of the citizens along the proposed path."
We have already expressed to the Department our strong opposition to the Piney Orchard/Odenton route, urging them to focus instead on routes which would not disrupt communities (including undergrounding the train -- it works for mass transit in DC, Baltimore and all over the world!)
But we -- and you -- can't be complacent.
We need to stand up for our Piney Orchard and Odenton.
